Local Election Success for Lib Dems across East Surrey
Tandridge Lib Dems held Valley ward with an increased majority for Cllr Dorinda Cooper, who won the seat two and a half years ago in a by election, and won two new seats in Portley and Warlingham East, Chelsham & Farleigh wards.
Kerry Mansfield beat a former Conservative Chair of Tandridge District Council to gain Portley ward with 56.6% of the vote. Kerry joins LD Cllr Chris Botten who holds the other Portley ward seat.
In Warlingham East, Chelsham & Farleigh, Dr Celia Caulcott regained the seat lost to the Tories in 2011. A 55% vote share means the Lib Dems now hold two of the three seats in this ward.
Across Tandridge, the Conservatives lost six seats (now 16) and, therefore, control of the Council. The Lib Dems hold 11 seats with the Oxted & Limpsfield Residents Group and Independent Alliance on 13 and the Independent Group hold two.
Elsewhere in the east Surrey area, Reigate Lib Dems gained two seats and Mole Valley Lib Dems wrested control of their council from the Tories, gaining nine seats.
