Vince Cable declared Leader of the Liberal Democrats
Vince Cable has been declared Leader of the Liberal Democrats with the backing of every one of the party’s MPs, succeeding Tim Farron.
Vince was nominated by all his parliamentary colleagues and the requisite number of members across the country. He is to embark on a UK-wide tour having been declared Leader (Thursday) at an event in central London.

Liberal Democrat Shadow Education Secretary Layla Moran has asked an urgent question in Parliament following reports that the government's free childcare website has suffered from problems that have meant parents have been blocked from accessing free childcare

Report shows prisons still failing badly
Commenting on the annual report of the Chief Inspector of Prisons, Liberal Democrat Shadow Home Secretary Ed Davey said: "This report reveals the appalling state of our prisons - the worst we have seen in modern times. It highlights this Government’s inability to tackle rising levels of violence, self-harm and deaths." East Surrey's MP Sam Gymiah is a Junior Minister for Prisons and has not commented.
