Flooding issues is top of hardworking Helen’s list of concerns.
Despite being on a hill, Westway has suffered from flooding. Many people’s homes have been ruined because of sudden flash floods. A lot of the issues are due to the Victorian infrastructure and too many houses being built. But, the lack of maintenance and upkeep of the drains and poor planning decisions have compounded the problem.
Helen says, “ in 2016 the water came rushing down Coulsdon Road through my garden into my home. This was devastating for me and my neighbours. For many Caterham Hill residents this was not the first time and it is getting worse.
I have been working with the Parish Council on the Flood Forum and will continue to push for better servicing of our drains, better planning for when it goes wrong and rules to stop over development”
