The latest financial forecast provided to Tandridge councillors states that the Council will have to make savings of over £1 million a year over the next few years, threatening core services and leading the Council to look at selling off vital community assets such as car parks and open spaces.

Yet at a recent Resources Committee the Tory administration proposed to increase the number of committee vice chairmen, meaning that total payments to councillors will increase. Councillor Simon Morrow said: “ it is unbelievable that the Tories are proposing to increase councillor allowances at a time of unprecedented financial stringency. In the 22 years I've been on the Council it has always managed perfectly well with one vice chairman for each committee and these extra positions are totally unnecessary”.
