Bulldozer smTandridge Council has put forward a number of parks, open spaces and car parks for development as part of its Local Plan process and to generate funds to help sustain its budget.

At the Resources Committee on 25 October, sites put forward for development included Timber Hill Recreation Ground in Caterham, Ellice Road car park in Oxted and Featherstone Open Space and playground in Blindley Heath.
Councillor Simon Morrow condemned the proposals : “our parks, open spaces and car parks are vital community facilities that should not be built on to attempt to deal with a financial shortfall caused to a great extent by national and local Tory mismanagement in recent years. The Liberal Democrats will support the redevelopment of suitable council land such as underused garage sites, but strongly oppose building on open spaces and car parks which are critical to the quality of life of local residents”.
