After a lot of hard work from our small team of dedicated activists in East Surrey, our General Election candidate Alex Ehmann can be proud to have regained a solid second place for the Liberal Democrats with an 85% increase in the share of the vote.
Alex has thrown his heart and soul into campaigning to become East Surrey's MP. He's campaigned in every part of the constituency, meeting voters and discussing their concerns over Brexit and a raft of local issues.
Following the count at Oxted School, Alex commented, "I am very grateful to everyone who came out on a miserable winter day and voted for me. The people of East Surrey deserve and expect proper representation at Westminster - someone who will stand up for them. I hope our new MP will be up to that expectation and not be a lap dog, pandering to their party's whims."
Councillor Chris Botten, leader of the Liberal Democrat groups on Tandridge District and Surrey County Councils added, "Alex has done a sensational job since his selection as our Parliamentary Candidate. He couldn't start campaigning as early as he would have liked as we had to wait to hear Sam Gyimah's intentions, after he joined the Lib Dems when the Conservatives removed the whip - we were as surprised as everyone else to suddenly find we had a Lib Dem MP in East Surrey.
"We hope that Alex's hard work will continue to bear fruit for us in East Surrey. We are looking forward to next May's local elections where voters will have another chance to back a hard-working Liberal Democrat to represent them on the local council."
