In the next five years, Britain needs Liberal voices standing up for our place in Europe, for our civil liberties, for human rights and for an open, tolerant and united Britain.

Will you be part of what comes next and join us today?

P1010987 smLocal Lib Dems support modern, user-friendly, environmentally-aware refuse and recycling facilities. We stand ready to support any good new proposal for our area. In the meantime, centres like the one in Bond Road Warlingham provide you with a vital and highly valued service. We got that message loud and clear from the survey responses. Until any better solution is rolled out, we will vigorously oppose any further cuts to the opening hours at Bond Road and elsewhere.

Quite a number of you mentioned litter. Big fly-tipping issues are, of course, linked to the provision or otherwise of refuse facilities. But what of the smaller-scale but, nevertheless, annoying litter problem? It may interest you to know that our Lib Dem colleague from Caterham, Cllr Alun Jones, is arguing for a beefed-up street cleaning regime in our district. He has noted the proposed eye-watering £90,000 increase in the council’s marketing budget and is making a strong case to have some of that diverted to your priorities, like street cleaning.

We should also engage more actively with Whyteleafe Village Council on issues such as litter. This is one of those issues that would benefit from a more joined up approach between different authorities.
