In the next five years, Britain needs Liberal voices standing up for our place in Europe, for our civil liberties, for human rights and for an open, tolerant and united Britain.
Last night Helen Rujbally won a decisive victory in the Westway by-election for the Liberal Democrats, called following the resignation of popular Caterham councillor Caroline Warner.
Helen won both the District and Parish council seats that she contested, winning the District Council seat with over 50% of the vote, and beating local Conservative Councillor Eithne Webster to win the Parish Council seat.
Helen Rujbally is standing to be your new District Councillor for Westway - Caterham Hill.
Why not drop her a line. Ask her a question or offer your support.
But Surrey Tories grant £400k to Guildford Art Gallery
There was outrage last week as the Tory administration of Surrey County Council gave a grant of £400,000 to an art gallery in Guildford that has £37million in the bank!
Hardworking Helen says, “Surrey needs to save money - we understand this. But to cut vital services like streetlights, opening hours of recycling centres and important support for the elderly whilst giving money away to profitable organisations is stupid.”
On Tandridge Distrct Council there are 30 Conservative Councillors. There are now only 5 Hardwoking Lib Dems, but as the official opposition we fight well above our weight. Westway does not need to add the 31st Complacent Conservative Councillor - bending under the pressure of the administration and ignoring local residents.
Westway needs a strong hardworking councillor to protect it and fight for its residents. A hardworking Lib Dem Councillor.
In this year’s county council election there were only 12 votes between keeping a hardworking Lib Dem and losing to another Conservative. Labour and UKIP scored less that 12% of the vote between them.
This local election is going to be close. Every vote will count.
Helen will be focusing on the Local Plan making sure there are enough homes built for the 1400 families on Tandridge’s waiting list and the hundreds of local young people who cannot afford to buy houses locally. But at the same time not putting more stress on our infrastructure and protecting local green spaces.
